To support our soldiers who have traumatic brain syndrome, lost arms, legs and be otherwise disabled as the result of the War, we are hosting the 4th Annual Fisher House Road Race at 9:00 am., Saturday, May 22nd, 2010 at Rockwell Park in Bristol. This event is being hosted by Newman Creed Associates in cooperation with the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. Our goal is to donate 100% of the money raised to support the Fisher House Foundation
As in the past, we have been working with the Bristol Parks & Recreation Department, the Veterans Affairs Council and the above groups to plan our new 2-mile (for walkers and wheelchairs)or a 5 mile road race course. We plan to charge $25 registration this year, which includes a souvenir "T" shirt. The race offers prizes being awarded for various categories and ages.
The Fisher House Foundation builds and maintains long term residential facilities near military hospitals nationwide. The families of seriously injured soldiers need a place to stay during the long rehabilitation process. This is a vital need, which is not covered by any other resource. Currently there are over 32 Fisher Houses nationwide. Since 1990 they have provided services to over 8,500 military families who have stayed more than 1.5 million days supporting their soldier during rehabilitation. The facilities are supported by contributions and openings are granted in reverse order of rank, so that the lower enlisted soldiers, has first chance at the housing.
